Health insurance and Medicare in Connecticut.
Connecticut runs its own marketplace, sets its own deadlines, and has a program that can bring the premium to nothing for some households. None of that matches what you read about the federal site.
Your deadlines are not the federal ones
Open Enrollment for 2027 coverage runs October 23, 2026 to January 15, 2027 — Connecticut opens earlier than most states. Enroll by December 15 if you want coverage starting January 1.
Coverage in Connecticut is bought through Access Health CT, which the state runs itself. That is a different site, a different login and a different calendar from HealthCare.gov, and it is the single most common thing people get wrong here.
Dates read from Access Health CT’s own announcement on September 2, 2026.
If a letter says your HUSKY Health is ending
If a letter says your HUSKY coverage is ending, that letter starts a clock. Losing it opens a special enrollment window — typically 60 days — and the date printed on the letter is what the window counts from, not the day you noticed.
The program most people in Connecticut have never heard of
Covered CT can cover the premium and the cost sharing entirely for households under a certain income, and it is not the same thing as HUSKY. Plenty of people who assume they earn too much for help qualify for this and never find out. Whether you do depends on income and household size, and it takes about a minute to check.
Medicare in Connecticut
For the 2027 plan year there are 15 products from 6 organizations available in Hartford County. What is on offer changes from one county to the next, so the number where you live may look nothing like that one — the plan finder prices your own ZIP, your own doctors and your own prescriptions.
Across the whole state
Coverage is written statewide in Connecticut, so where you live in it does not change what you can get — Bridgeport, New Haven, Stamford, Hartford, Waterbury, Norwalk, Danbury, New Britain, Bristol and Meriden included, and everywhere between them. Everything happens by phone, text, email or video, in English or Spanish.
Everything is available here: marketplace health, Medicare, small-group, life, final expense, retirement, dental, vision, and accident or hospital indemnity.
Start with your own situation, not the state average.
Say what changed — a letter, a birthday, a job, a premium — and you get a straight answer about what Connecticut actually allows you to do about it.
