Health insurance and Medicare in Pennsylvania.
Pennsylvania left HealthCare.gov and runs Pennie instead, which means a different site, a different login and a different set of deadlines. It also has the widest Medicare choice of any state covered here, which sounds good until you have to pick.
Your deadlines are not the federal ones
Pennie’s Open Enrollment normally runs November 1 through January 15. Enroll by December 15 for coverage that starts January 1.
Coverage in Pennsylvania is bought through Pennie, which the state runs itself. That is a different site, a different login and a different calendar from HealthCare.gov, and it is the single most common thing people get wrong here.
Pennie had not published its 2027 dates when this page was written on September 2, 2026 — check Pennie for the current year before you rely on a date.
If a letter says your Medical Assistance is ending
A letter ending your Medical Assistance or CHIP coverage opens a special enrollment window, usually 60 days from the date printed on it. Pennie is where that enrollment happens, not HealthCare.gov, and that trips up people who moved here from another state.
More Medicare choice than anywhere else on this site
Bucks County alone has 29 Medicare products available for the 2027 plan year, against 15 in Hartford County and 9 in Hampden County, Massachusetts. More options is not the same as a better outcome — it means the drug list and the doctor list do more of the deciding, and it takes longer to narrow honestly.
Medicare in Pennsylvania
For the 2027 plan year there are 29 products from 5 organizations available in Bucks County. What is on offer changes from one county to the next, so the number where you live may look nothing like that one — the plan finder prices your own ZIP, your own doctors and your own prescriptions.
Across the whole state
Coverage is written statewide in Pennsylvania, so where you live in it does not change what you can get — Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Allentown, Reading, Erie, Upper Darby, Scranton, Bethlehem, Lancaster and Harrisburg included, and everywhere between them. Everything happens by phone, text, email or video, in English or Spanish.
Everything is available here: marketplace health, Medicare, small-group, life, final expense, retirement, dental, vision, and accident or hospital indemnity.
Start with your own situation, not the state average.
Say what changed — a letter, a birthday, a job, a premium — and you get a straight answer about what Pennsylvania actually allows you to do about it.
