2027 plan year · Connecticut, New Jersey & Pennsylvania

What you can earn and still get help paying for a 2027 health plan.

Help with your monthly premium depends on the income you expect to report for the year and on how many people are in your tax household. Here are the actual numbers for 2027, and the one line that matters most — because above it, the help stops completely.

Figures checked October 9, 2026, against the federal poverty guidelines published January 2026, which are the ones that govern 2027 coverage.

What each of those three columns actually means

The first column

Below this, you are usually looking at your state’s Medicaid program instead — HUSKY in Connecticut, NJ FamilyCare in New Jersey, Medical Assistance in Pennsylvania — not a marketplace plan with help attached.

Those programs have their own limits, and they are higher for children than for adults. Worth asking rather than assuming.

The middle column

Under this figure, a silver plan quietly becomes a much better plan — lower deductible, lower out-of-pocket maximum, same premium. It is the most commonly missed thing on the whole marketplace.

You only get it on silver. Picking bronze to save a few dollars throws it away.

The last column

This is the one to pay attention to for 2027. One dollar over it and the help does not shrink — it stops entirely, and you pay the full price of the plan.

The temporary rules that softened this have ended. For 2027 the drop is back, and it is a cliff, not a slope.

The part that catches people out: this is based on the income you expect for 2027, not last year’s. A bonus, a good quarter in a side business, or taking money out of a retirement account late in the year can push a household over the last column after the fact — and it is settled when you file your taxes, not when it happens.

What is happening to prices in your state

Approved increases for 2027. These are averages across all plans — your own plan may move more or less, and help with the premium rises alongside the price for most people who qualify for it.

Connecticut

11.3% approved for individual plans, cut down from the 16.2% the carriers asked for. Small business group plans were approved at 15.1%.

About 220,000 people in the state are affected — roughly 157,000 on individual plans and 63,000 on small group. Enrollment runs October 23 to January 15. Connecticut page →

Pennsylvania

15.97% approved for Pennie plans, cut from the 17.14% requested. Small business group plans were approved at 10.28%.

Enrollment runs November 1 to January 15. Pennsylvania page →

New Jersey

Carriers have filed for an average of around 20.4%. New Jersey works differently from the other two — rate filings there are informational and are not approved in advance, so treat this as filed, not final.

Enrollment runs November 1 to January 31, the longest window of the three. New Jersey page →

These figures are general information for Connecticut, New Jersey and Pennsylvania and are not insurance, tax or legal advice. What you actually pay depends on your age, your ZIP code, your household size and the income you report, and the final decision belongs to your state marketplace. Income figures come from the federal poverty guidelines published January 2026, which govern 2027 coverage. Rate figures come from each state’s insurance department. All checked October 9, 2026.
